There were 16,700 fire incidents in flats 4 storeys or more in England , Scotland & Wales in the last 5 financial years

Fire incidents remain common in large residential buildings. In the financial year 2018/19 in England, we have seen a steady growth in the number of fire incidents recorded in flats of 10 storeys or more where sprinklers were present. This has gone from 5% to 17% of incidents where the FRS attended. Taking this to consider all incidents in flats with a storey over 4 storeys this figure drops to around 5%. We hope the application of the Building Safety Act will continue to stimulate an improvement in these statistics in the long-term, thus making the use of sprinklers more of a norm in such buildings.
